Meet FD19’s Bus Stop Builders: Studio Outside

Our second FD19 team in the Meet the Bus Stop Builders video series is Studio Outside.

Studio Outside is comprised of four Landscape Architects who spend a fair amount of their work week considering how people get around. Their mission of meeting human needs with mindful design is what brought them to FD19 for a third year of competition. “We can’t have secure urban circulation without considering how people are getting on the bus,” says Regan O’Brien, team leader of the group.

The team began their work on FD19 with a research approach. According to the group, there was little known about particulate matter at bus stops and even fewer strategies to address the problem.

When the shallow data wasn’t enough, Studio Outside realized that a major aspect of their project should be to spread awareness about this health concern.

For the design of their bus stop, Studio Outside doesn’t want to get lost in the aesthetics. They want their design to be able to meet human needs with simplicity. For the project, they are combining their geographically diverse backgrounds and varied experiences with digital fabrication for a shot at taking home the victory.

Join us on May 4 from 6-9 pm in front of the Better Block’s headquarters (700 West Davis) to vote for your favorite bus stop while enjoying music and vendors.

FD19 is made possible by the following sponsors: Nunzio Marc DeSantis Architects, Downwinders at Risk, OmniPlan, Craig Schenkel Properties, 3Headed Monster, and Oddfellows.
