Activate Main Street
A transformation is coming to Downtown Dallas' Main Street!
Opening Day: May 24th | Main Street District in Downtown Dallas
Better Block is excited to work with Downtown Dallas, Inc. (DDI), to Activate Main Street during a major fútbol event this summer. The goal for this temporary project is to not only showcase Dallas at its best, but to create a more walkable, bikeable environment so that residents and visitors can navigate through the Downtown's Main Street.
“Activate Main Street shows what’s possible when we design our streets for people, not just cars,” said Azael Alvarez, Project Manager of Better Block. “With the World Cup bringing thousands of visitors to Dallas, this is an opportunity to create a more walkable, vibrant Downtown that supports local businesses and gives both residents and visitors a new way to experience Main Street.”
In partnership with DDI and Dallas neighbors, Better Block will reutilize parking spaces along Main Street into vibrant community spaces featuring seating, shade, games, new Wikiblock designs, a World Pup Stick Library, and a large-scale ground mural inspired by the texture of Downtown Dallas.
While the program is a temporary demonstration lasting approximately 39 days, Better Block will work alongside DDI and local volunteers to gather data on the pilot’s impact on public life, traffic speeds, and safety - helping inform future, long-term improvements.
Want to get involved? We're inviting volunteers to help bring the project to life through hands-on workshops where neighbors can build, paint, plant, repair, and celebrate a joyful, people-centered space.
